Road Warriors: Kingsport's Street Crews Have Gone Nonstop For Two Weeks

KINGSPORT — For the guys in Kingsport’s Streets and Sanitation Department, the past two weeks have been hectic to say the least.“It’s been a lot of long hours,” said Streets Supervisor Greg Willis. “These guys have had it rough, a lot of long hours behind the wheel plowing these streets and trying to keep a vehicle maintained and operational.” The department has essentially worked nonstop during the recent snowstorms in Kingsport, trying to stay ahead of the inevitable snow- and ice-covered roads and working to clear the streets and highways throughout the Model City as quickly — and as safely — as they can.Crews have been on duty since Valentine’s Day evening, heading off the upcoming storm by pretreating the roads with salt brine — a common task that helps prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement.Since then, every 12 hours have been about the same.
