"rogue One" To Use Panavision 70 Lenses

As we know, J.J. Abrams has gone old school for his upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with that film being shot on 35mm and (at least one sequence) on 65mm film. Gareth Edwards' upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" spin-off feature is taking things even further old school with The Playlist reporting that the production plans to use Ultra Panavision 70 anamorphic lenses for filming. These are the same lenses that Panavision specifically recreated for Quentin Tarantino to use on his upcoming "The Hateful Eight" which was shot on 65mm film. 'Rogue One' may be employing the old lenses, but at least parts of the movie will be done with very new tech in the form of the Arris Alexa 65 large-format 6K digital camera according to the site. 'Rogue One' is currently in production in the United Kingdom.
