SafeHomes of Augusta broke ground on a larger facility that will allow the nonprofit to help more victims of domestic violence. The 14,000-square foot gated facility will have 36 beds, administrative offices and meeting space for counseling and other support services. It will be able to house more than twice the number of clients than the current shelter. In 2013, SafeHomes turned away 329 people because of lack of space, said Executive Director Aimee Hall.
