Sanchez appreciates fans’ applause The afterglow of a World Series championship seems to last a long time. Catcher Hector Sanchez played a major role as Buster Posey’s backup for two San Francisco title teams, and Giants fans have not forgotten. When Sanchez pinch-hit for San Diego in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s 8-2 Giants victory at AT&T Park, the fans gave him a standing ovation. “To be back here and get the same feeling I had when I was wearing a Giants uniform is pretty special,” Sanchez said Wednesday. The Giants let Sanchez go last season because other catchers passed him on the depth chart. Three days later, the 26-year-old Venezuelan caught all 10 innings of an 8-7 win at Milwaukee because regular catcher Derek Norris was hurt. San Diego had a bullpen game and Sanchez had to catch eight relievers he just met. Concussions hastened the end of Sanchez’s Giants career, but he continues to catch with no reservations. Giants right-hander Jake Peavy knows some fans want his head after a bad start to the season, but he said after pitching in Boston and Chicago, where the media and fans have more fangs, he does not feel the heat. “It doesn’t bother me,” he said. Brandon Crawford advanced from first to third on a second-inning Jarrett Parker groundout into a right-side shift when San Diego pitcher James Shields did not cover third, which was unoccupied. Crawford then scored on a Kelby Tomlinson single.
