WILKES-BARRE — A fire on South Hancock Street early Sunday morning displaced seven people, according to the American Red Cross. The three-alarm fire at 33 South Hancock Street, just off Lehigh Street, was called in at 12:04 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Edward Snarski. Snarski said the damage done by the fire was significant, especially on the upper floors of the structure. “The roof was burned off completely,” he said. Snarski described the structure as an apartment complex that had previously been a duplex. He said the bulk of the fire was under control by 1:20 a.m.
