Texas Department of Public Safety Officials added Ernest Leroy Smith to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. Smith, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1997 for the aggravated sexual assault of a 5-year-old boy in Lamar County, removed his ankle monitor and fled from the Southeast Texas Transitional Center, authorities said. Last December, Smith was ordered into the state's civil commitment program for people who are considered Texas' most violent sex offenders.
