Slain Officer Garrett Swasey Recalled At Church Service In Colorado Springs

Garrett Swasey leapt, spun and pirouetted on a lighted screen Sunday as members of Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs whooped and clapped. "What a man!" and "That's our Garrett, you guys!" went shouts from the faithful, as laughter rippled through the sanctuary. Roughly 100 people packed Hope Chapel for a Sunday service that kept a strong focus on the slain officer, who as a church elder had helped to lead Sunday services, strumming a guitar during devotionals and taking turns delivering plain-spoken sermons. After viewing footage from his past life as a champion ice dancer, fellow elders wove in remembrances of Swasey, whose day job was on the police force at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
