A small plane that early reports indicated had departed from the Bay Area crashed Saturday in central Oregon, killing the two people on board. The single-engine, homebuilt Wheeler Express crashed near the Madras airport around 1:50 p.m., said to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. Tens of thousands of people were traveling to Oregon ahead of Monday’s solar eclipse, which will be seen in its totality from many spots in the state.
