The city of Painesville's plans to tear down an 1800s home in the heart of its Mentor Avenue Historic District is causing a stir among some in the community. The city recently began running legal notice of its intent to demolish the structure at 239 Mentor Ave., just east of the bike path. The property, which is in foreclosure, was identified for demolition because of structural issues found by city housing inspectors and the chief building official, said Doug Lewis, assistant city manager/community development director.
