CEO Gary Kelly described Denver as “without a doubt the fastest growing city in the history of Southwest Airlines” at the company’s shareholder meeting Wednesday. Now, the airline’s aims to keep growing here will be aided by the addition of nearly $100 million maintenance hangar at Denver International Airport. Kelly announced the project from a podium set up in a basement conference room of the Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel, kicking off the annual gathering with news sure to excite the airline’s 75 technical operations employees who do most of their work at DIA outside for now. The 130,000-square-foot facility will have space inside for three Boeing 737 aircraft, Kelly said, with parking outside for eight more. “Our investment here has paid off very handsomely,” Kelly said of Southwest’s decision to operate a hub in Denver.
