The Ohio Department of Natural Resources declared Friday that Chesapeake, Akron’s longtime resident peregrine falcon, is dead.Chesapeake lost a battle earlier in the day to a red-tailed hawk near the intersection of Arlington and Wilbeth Roads in southeast Akron, said Laurie Garber, a wildlife research technician with ODNR.Chesapeake had been missing and presumed dead after a new falcon moved to downtown Akron and was seen with McKinley, Chesapeake’s most recent mate.
