State Loses Effort To Stop Schaghticoke Tribe’s Suit

KENT - A Superior Court judge has rejected the state’s request to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation seeking more than $610 million in compensation for the sale of reservation land. The lawsuit, filed by the tribal nation last year, claims that the state violated statutes dating back to 1757 in selling off more than 2,000 acres of the reservation during the early 19th century.
