(By Kirsten Valle Pittman and John Murawski, kpittman@charlotteobserver.com john.murawski@newsobserver.com) Surgical supply maker Zimmer plans to close its Statesville plant next year, laying off 124 workers, the company said Tuesday.The Indiana-based company, which employs more than 8,000 people worldwide, will cut its first five jobs in Statesville in October, according to a layoff notice filed with the N.C.
