Taylor Motter hit a grand slam off Triggs in the third inning, and Nelson Cruz hit a three-run homer off Raul Alcantara in the seventh. The A’s did little against Yovani Gallardo, collecting two hits through six innings and two more in the seventh when they chased the Seattle starter. Healy had two of Oakland’s five hits as the cleanup hitter, the spot usually reserved for Khris Davis. Triggs entered 3-0 without yielding an earned run in 17 2/3 innings, the longest run by an Oakland starter to open a season. In franchise history, he was the third A’s pitcher to start a season with three games of at least five innings while giving up no earned runs. Dyson stole second, took third on a groundout and scored when Robinson Cano hit a grounder through Oakland’s drawn-in infield. Triggs gave up two hits and issued consecutive walks to force home the first run in the third, and Motter followed with his grand slam. Cruz doubled home a run in the Mariners’ two-run ninth and finished with five RBIs.
