John Logan's "Penny Dreadful" is a witchy brew of Victorian hysteria, a mutant gothic inspired by Wilde and Shelley and stuffed with malevolently kooky spooks. Less everything-but-the-kitchen-sink than FX's "American Horror Story," the first season boasted superb visuals and cinematic subtly despite the crazy "anything goes" drama that unfolds. Ahead of its May 3 premiere on Showtime, stream the season 2 premiere, which already looks to be aggressively scary, silly and insane.
