BOSTON — Dermatologists who treat skin cancer patients urged state lawmakers on Tuesday to approve a bill that would bar anyone under age 18 from using tanning beds, but salon owners accused critics of overstating the risks. Current Massachusetts law allows 14- to 17-year-olds to visit tanning salons with written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
