Pre-schoolers might learn a lot from computers these days. But at UC Berkeley, the tables have been turned: Researchers are studying kids to find out how to make computers smarter. The 46 children enrolled at the university's Child Study Center constantly engage in activities that elude modern-day computer programs -- from learning language to pretending to be a firefighter or a princess, said Alison Gopnik, a leading developmental psychologist who studies children at the center.
