Heat wave hits Day 6 in Southern California; warning issued

The heat wave that has gripped Southern California will continue for at least one more day, as the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for large swaths of the region.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for eastern Contra Costa County today after a trained spotter reported a funnel cloud near Brentwood. Tornadoes are rare in California and almost unheard of in the Bay Area, but this is the second time this week the weather service has issued a warning locally. Santa Clara County was put under a tornado warning Wednesday afternoon. No twister materialized.

National Weather Service forecasters in California said they believe rising ocean levels caused by the massive American Samoa earthquake will be mostly felt along the Central Coast, roughly from the Monterey Bay sound to Point Conception in Santa Barbara County.
