A strong earthquake has shaken northern Chile.

Electricity was restored Monday to all of Chile after an overheated transformer caused a blackout Sunday over 90 percent of the country, an official with Chile's largest electric company told CNN's partner network in the country.

The death toll from Chile's earthquake has more than doubled to 708 and is expected to rise further, President Michelle Bachelet has said.

A massive quake struck Chile early Saturday, shaking the capital of Santiago, bringing down buildings and setting off a tsunami. At least 78 were killed with the toll rising.
