Bill Murray, Andy Borowitz headed to Proctors

Two new shows have been announced by Proctors: comedian Bill Murray, scheduled to appear alongside cellist Jan Vogler in an evening of literature and music at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9; and New Yorker satirist Andy Borowitz, making a stop on his “Make America Less Embarrassing Again” tour at 8 p.m. Friday, July 13.Tickets will be available to the general public on Thursday, Feb. 8, for the Murray show and Friday, Feb. 9, for Borowitz.

 

Slight change in amount of snow predicted for Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Albany is revising the amount of snow expected to fall during Wednesday's day-long storm.Much of the Capital Region is expected to see between 8 and 9 inches of snow by the time the snow stops falling early Thursday morning.

 

Troopers investigate fatal crash on I-90

State Police say they are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 90 in Canaan.The circumstances of the crash are not yet available but troopers said they were sent to the crash scene at about 2:56 a.m.

 

Albany police officer charged with drunken driving

COLONIE — An Albany police officer was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly driving drunk and crashing his car into a guard rail on Alternate Route 7, State Police said.Troopers were called to the scene, where they found off-duty Albany police Officer Arthur Burnett. He tested at a 0.15 percent blood alcohol concentration, State Police said. The legal limit is 0.8 percent.

 

Independent Living Center reopens in Troy

TroyThe Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley, which helps disabled people with life skills and services, is reopening its renovated Third Street facility in Troy.The group will hold a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m., which will include RuthAnne Visnauskas, commissioner of the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal, and Troy Mayor Patrick Madden. Founded in 1987, the center serves Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Columbia, Greene, and Dutchess counties.

 

Nassau blaze destroys historic home

NASSAU — Fire destroyed a historic home on Dunham Hollow Road Monday. Daniel and Shannon Middleton purchased the residence at 299 Dunham Hollow Road in November for $239,900, according to legal listings. A real estate service listed it as a circa 1796 center hall Colonial with an in-law apartment.

 

State Assembly passes DREAM Act

ALBANY — The state Assembly on Monday passed its version of the DREAM Act, which provides college financial aid for children of undocumented immigrants.

Facebook admission leads to gang assault guilty plea

A Green Island man pleaded guilty Monday in Albany County Court after previously admitting on Facebook to beating a person in a gang-style assault.Skylar West, 19, pleaded guilty to felony gang assault in Albany County Court Monday for his role in beating a person he knew with BB guns, fists and feet, fracturing the victim's nose, orbital bone and spine on July 14 in Colonie, according to Albany County District Attorney David Soares.
