Jackie Ray Lawson

NORTON, VA – Jackie Ray “Jack” Lawson, 83, of Mooresburg, Tennessee, formerly of Wise County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at his home on Cherokee Lake.
Jack was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a long time Deputy Sheriff with the Wise County Sheriff’s Department having retired as a Captain of the Department. At the time of his death he was the owner of Lawson Campground in Mooresburg, Tennessee. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend.

 

Charlotte Virginia Cheek Hensley

ROSE HILL, VA - Charlotte Virginia Cheek Hensley, 85, of Rose Hill Virginia went to be with our Lord at 2:25pm, August 7, 2019 surrounded by loved ones at her home.
Charlotte was born in Rose Hill VA May 25, 1934. She retired teaching school from the Willoughby-Eastlake School District after 30 years of dedication. She has served as a Sunday School teacher and was a faithful member of the Rose Hill Christian Church.
Charlotte was preceded in death by parents Odus and Hattie Check. Brothers Harold Cheek, Rhea Cheek, and Odus Tyler Cheek.

 

Kingsport Theatre Guild to stage 'West Side Story'

KINGSPORT — The first show of Kingsport Theatre Guild’s 2019-2020 season will open Friday night, and tickets are still available.
KTG will stage “West Side Story,” a modernized rendition of “Romeo and Juliet,” this weekend and next at the Renaissance Center mainstage. Tina Radtke, executive director of KTG, said the show is unique in that the cast features several families, and it will include a full orchestra.
“To my knowledge, KTG has never done this show before,” Radtke said.

GATE CITY, VA - Gary Lynn Smith, 67 of Gate City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, August 9, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City.
A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brad Bess officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Smith Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bronson Bess, Bryce Bess, Christian Starnes, Jackie France, Payton Martin, Josh France, Jamie Smith, Richard Hicks and Chad Debien.

SURGOINSVILLE - Linda Lawson Winegar, age 69 of Surgoinsville, passed away, Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Ballad Health Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. 
Visitation hours will be 12:00 Noon to 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 P.M., Saturday, August 10, 2019 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Holt and Rev. George Winegar officiating.   Burial will follow in Hawkins County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tecky Hicks officiating.

KINGSPORT - Marlene McConnell, 77, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at Brookdale, Colonial Heights with her loving husband by her side.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, 2019, from 5:00-6:45 pm in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Angie Carswell.
A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 10:00 am in the Garden of the Last Supper at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

ROGERSVILLE - Raymond C. Anderson, 78, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, 3 August 2019, after a brief hospital stay.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. at Christian-Sells Funeral Home with Rev. Loren Boyce officiating. Military graveside service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. Military rights provided by the U.S. Army.

GATE CITY, VA - Thomas Michael Taylor, 36, of Gate City, VA passed away on Friday August 2, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Larry Epperson and Pastor Matthew Edwards officiating.

Naomi McConnell Lane

Naomi McConnell Lane, 97, passed away peacefully at Steadman Hills Assisted Living on August 3, 2019.
A homemaker, Naomi was an excellent cook and an avid flower gardener.
Naomi was an active member of Gate City United Methodist Church until she moved to Steadman Hills, where she lived until her passing.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Stewart Lane, Sr.  She was also predeceased by her son, Freddie Richard Lane, granddaughter, Melissa Lane Ward and all 8 of her brothers and sisters.
