In Wednesday morning’s oral arguments in the Minnesota Court of Appeals for Minnesota’s teacher tenure lawsuit — the third of its kind nationally — an attorney for the parents argued that students’ right to an adequate education calls for the dismantling of the tenure laws. Defense attorneys for the state fired back that teacher quality is an issue for the Legislature, not the courts, and that previous cases make the arguments worthless.
