The question we should be asking ourselves, then, is: If the world looks at America and sees Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter as its profile picture, what does the world think? Because of social media, false speech, hate speech, and extremist views spread easily — which associates the US with the degradation of political discourse. There is a larger opportunity for foreign intervention in domestic politics, which has shown democracy can be made vulnerable.
