I have just seen Terminator 3 for the first time (I have yet to see the fourth film) and I am not quite sure about what moves Skynet to destroy humanity. In other threads, I have read that Skynet is programmed to protect itself against possible threats. When people in 1997 see that it becomes self aware, they decide to shut it down.
