By Brandy McDonnell Features Writer bmcdonnell@oklahoman.com Outstanding performances and terrific songs ensure Lyric Theatre's “Fun Home” stands strong even when structural and pacing issues make it a bit shaky. Directed by Producing Artistic Director Michael Baron, Lyric is staging the Oklahoma City premiere production of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical through April 29 at its intimate Plaza Theatre. Adapted by Lisa Kron (book and lyrics) and Jeanine Tesori (music) from Alison Bechdel's best-selling graphic-novel memoir, the coming-of-age musical won five trophies at the 2015 Tony Awards, including best book and best original score. “Fun Home” is believed to be the first mainstream musical with a lesbian protagonist, but there is a universality in how the musical delves into the intricate inner workings of families, especially the complex and powerful relationship between a father and daughter. Structured as a memory play, “Fun Home” stars Lyric Theatre stalwart Lyn Cramer as Alison, a successful middle-aged cartoonist who is working on her memoir.Read more on NewsOK.com
