Tobacco litter is one of the worst pollution problems facing the bay today -- and thus a major focus of Saturday's California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state's largest volunteer event. Three billion cigarette butts are littered each year in Bay Area communities, according to the group Save The Bay. It is calling on cities to stop the litter at its source, by adopting and enforcing outdoor smoking bans.
