Considering the sizable overlap of California’s main tourism season and fire season, as well as predictions of another nasty year for forest and wildland fires, it has become increasingly important to factor fire danger into summer travel plans. While most of the well-known resorts and attractions in Monterey’s popular coastal region were planning to remain open during the Soberanes Fire, and Highway 1 has stayed open, all state parks continue to be closed.
