Two fatal accidents occurred on Highway 680 in the dark early hours of Saturday morning, one in Pleasanton and the other in Pleasant Hill, according to the California Highway Patrol. A man was driving north in a 2005 Toyota Camry when he suddenly veered across multiple lanes of traffic and smashed into the divider so forcefully the car flipped onto its roof, according to the CHP. Less than two hours later, a young man died on Highway 680 in Pleasant Hill after being struck by three cars. The first driver fled the scene, but the second and third, a 29-year-old Oakley man driving an Audi SUV and a 22-year-old Concord woman driving a Toyota Corolla, stayed to provide statements to officers. The investigation is ongoing, but investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
