Ulster County Nears Ban On Plastic Bags

Ulster County stores would be prohibited from using plastic bags and would charge at least 5 cents for each paper bag they provide customers under a proposed law approved by the county Legislature on Thursday.The proposal, which passed in a 15-7 vote, is meant to reduce plastic waste and encourage shoppers to bring their own reusable bags.
