NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma’s production of “La Finta Giardiniera (The Mysterious Garden Girl)” doesn’t make much sense, but that only made it more fun, like a parody of romantic conventions or a forerunner of absurdist theatre. The opera written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at age 18, with a libretto by Giuseppe Petrosellini, first performed in 1775, was previewed Tuesday at OU’s Reynolds Performing Arts Center. Contributing to the atmosphere of romantic fantasy and comic chaos was the unreality of movable garden hedge props, a sky flat and outdoor statues of an angel and a woman that almost became characters.
