Utility Relocation Slows Concord Roadwork

Relocating utilities like electric poles and wires, natural gas lines and water and sewer pipes is essential for a road-rebuilding project and the work on Concord Road looks as if it has stalled because of it. Sarah Dupre, spokeswoman for the Beaumont district, which is supervising the Concord reconstruction from East Lucas Drive to Texas 105, said the contractor on the project, Tradeco Infraestructura Inc., had not done some of the drainage work properly. In response, city public works director Patrick Donart said he had heard about the contractor's personnel problems, but didn't know specifically what had happened. The second stretch to Texas 105, when completed, will give drivers something of an internal loop from MLK at Cardinal Drive up to Texas 105 without having to drive on the interstate or Eastex Freeway.
