The University of Washington, the city’s largest employer, is immediately raising to $11 an hour the wages of 70 non-student employees, conforming to the minimum wage that takes effect April 1 in Seattle. The UW has about 2,600 student employees who earn less than the $11 minimum, many at jobs financed by student fees. It is assessing whether it is feasible to extend the new minimum to them, and what fee and price increases will be necessary to pay for it.
