FORT COLLINS — For Gabi Morris, throwing as a side hustle became a full-time business. And business has never been better.
The Fort Collins native and CSU Rams standout on Thursday was named the Mountain West Outdoor Female Athlete of the Year, just a few weeks after nailing a runner-up finish in shot put at the NCAA outdoor track and field national championships.
“I’m still pretty late to the game comparatively, (relative to) a lot of these athletes who are going (to the Olympic trials),” said Morrison, one of three CSU women throwers who will compete for an Olympic berth next week at the U.

FORT COLLINS — Before she chased Olympic gold, Mya Lesnar was comedy gold, the kind of walking roast that would make Kevin Hart and Tom Brady blush.
“One thing we like to do is, when we’re out in public, we’ll walk around and we like to find lookalikes,” CSU Rams discus thrower Michaela Hawkins explained to me after practice the other day.

The Colorado Avalanche’s first trip to Utah to face the newest NHL team will be at a familiar place for some people in the organization.

No, “I Love L. A.” didn’t blare out of the Coors Field speakers Thursday afternoon. But that didn’t keep the Dodgers from feeling right at home. Per usual.
Behind a strong start from rookie right-hander Gavin Stone and homers from the top three hitters in their lineup — All-Stars Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith and Freddie Freeman — the Dodgers beat the Rockies, 5-3, to clinch the four-game series.
“Even without Mookie, that lineup is still ridiculous,” Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon said, referring to Dodgers injured star shortstop Mookie Betts.
The 2024 NHL offseason started unofficially Wednesday with a flurry of transactions, as several teams decided they couldn’t wait until the end of the Stanley Cup Final to start reshaping rosters.
For the Colorado Avalanche, it’s an uncertain summer but there are holes to fill on a depth chart that still starts with one of the best cores in the league.
