About 300 students and 50 mentors worked over the course of five summers to make amateur rocket science history Sunday morning. The world's largest sport rocket successfully launched from Fort Carson's Camp Red Devil just after 11 a.m. It stood 50 feet tall and weighed 1,245 pounds. The rocket, the Future Heavy, was sponsored by United Launch Alliance, Ball Aerospace and the Space Foundation. It was built by United Launch Alliance interns.
