Over a decade ago, Warner Bros. Pictures was developing a project dubbed "Superman: Flyby". Having abandoned Tim Burton's "Superman Lives" project in the late 1990s, the studio had moved onto this incarnation which boasted a script by J.J. Abrams and had Brett Ratner slated to direct. Abrams’ screenplay drastically reinvented the mythology, and an infamous and highly negative online script review was one factor which eventually led to the film's abandonment.
