The Wilmington City Council recently voted to donate 21 vehicles with a combined value of $45,300 to four nonprofits. Yet the city's largess may have a budgetary consequence. Vehicles or equipment declared surplus would otherwise be sold at auction and the proceeds would return to the city's coffers. In the past, the number of donated vehicles at one time has been in the single digits, said Dylan Lee, a city spokesman. The number is higher this time for two reasons, he said.
