Sonoma County officials identified the body of a Bay Area woman who was hit by a sneaker wave and swept out to sea on Monday despite a rapid rescue response, officials said Tuesday. The woman, 19-year-old Victoria Alvarez of Fairfield, was knocked off balance and swept into the water by a large wave near Schoolhouse Beach, about four miles north of Bodega Bay, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. By 1:40 p.m., a California State Parks lifeguard had arrived, and when the lifeguard couldn’t spot her from the shore, he entered the water, along with a Bodega Bay firefighter, officials said.
