Needy families throughout Jacksonville can add collard greens to their Thanksgiving meals, due to the hard work of kids and volunteers at the Woodland Acres Boys and Girls Club. Several volunteers harvested about 1,500 collard plants from the club’s five-acre garden to donate to The Salvation Army and the Sulzbacher Center. "We were going to sell the whole crop, but because it’s Thanksgiving, we’re giving it away,” said club director Darby Stubberfield. Club members and their families also brought home a portion of the crop to celebrate their hard work. read more
