The categorization of a person as homosexual or bisexual has existed for only 150 years. Some of the individuals listed here are from times or places where these concepts were not used. In addition some people may have chosen to not publicly acknowledge their sexuality for social or personal reasons. The editors involved in the creation of this list have made every effort to only include individuals for which there is scholarly or documentary evidence available.
