Alleged Rand Shooter Arrested; Victim May Not Survive

By Rachel Molenda RAND, W.Va. -- A man was arrested for shooting another man in the head on Wednesday morning.Leonard Dewayne Thomas, 44, was arrested for malicious wounding, said Kanawha County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Humphreys. The victim, Gerald Maxwell, was at CAMC General Hospital. He was not expected to survive, assistant Kanawha prosecutor Maryclaire Akers said.Thomas shot Maxwell in the head at an apartment on Starling Drive, according to a criminal complaint.Witnesses told officers that a man referred to as "D" shot Maxwell inside the apartment, the complaint states.Police said Thomas was found at a home on Raven Drive wearing a large white coat and matching a description given by "at least one witness," the complaint states.After his arrest, Thomas allegedly told officers he was known as "D" and that he had been staying at the Starling Drive apartment.
