U.S. District Judge Richard Leon ruled earlier this month that a section of the city’s law requiring people who want to carry a gun in public to show a “good reason to fear injury” or another “proper reason” to carry the weapon is likely an infringement on the right to bear arms. The city appealed, and on Friday, the federal appeals court for the District temporarily put Leon’s ruling on hold until it can hear further argument.
