Barack Obama quietly got a lot of stuff thing done in Congress during his first two years: 2009 and 2010. According to the Associated Press, the 111th Congress is “the most productive in nearly half a century.” What did he get done? He passed an $814B economic stimulus package that averted the U.S.

It’s good to hear prominent Republicans calling out their party’s partisanship. Why are House Republicans wasting their time repealing the Health Care bill a second time, when they know that it would fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate? Why aren’t they working with Democrats to create jobs and improve the economy? It’s because the Republicans are taking a “my way or the highway” approach.

Generally speaking, last Friday’s jobs report was nothing to brag about - even though Barack Obama did it anyway - but the Wall Street Journal found some “hidden good news.” Here are a couple of quotes and my comments:

Dean Obeidallah of CNN has an interesting take on why Mitt Romney, as a potential CEO of America, flip flops so often. The headline is misleading because Obeidallah does agree that Romney is a flip-flopper, he merely justifies why he does it so often. This gist of it is that Romney is constantly rebranding himself to appeal to his customers - the voters. Obeidallah goes through Romney's history of flip flops pretty thoroughly. Here's a quote:

Remember when Bill Clinton told Barack Obama to stop attacking Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital?

"There's no question that in terms of getting up and going to the office and basically performing the essential functions of the office, a man who has been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold," Clinton said.

A week ago, the economy was looking pretty bad. China and India’s economic growth have slowed. Before Europe even has a chance to fully deal with the Greek crisis, another one sprang up: Spain. In the U.S., unemployment went up slightly in May and job growth slowed. It’s just all bad news for the global economy.

Here’s a quote from a Reuters article regarding Mitt Romney’s record as a job creator when he was Governor of Massachusetts:

Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod noted in an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation" that "Governor Romney offers himself as a job creator, a kind of economic oracle and he's saying the same exact thing as he said 10 years ago when he ran for governor of Massachusetts."

As expected, when the economy took a hit like yesterday when job growth was anemic and unemployment went up slightly, oil prices went down. It has nothing to do with supply and demand.

So much for TGIF: all economic reports today were either disappointing or just plain bad.

First, people in Spain are taking their money out of local banks and putting them overseas. It’s similar to what the Greeks did a couple weeks ago - or was it a month? Either way, it’s not good.

In our current poor economic times when the government and businesses are having trouble balancing their budgets, we’re seeing them come up with some creative ways to derive additional revenue.

It seems like whenever cities need to balance their budgets, one of the first areas to cut is education. School districts have resorted to selling advertising on school websites. I’m all for it as long as the ads are clean and don’t offend any parents.
