Saturday, March 14 is Pi Day, the day that celebrates the symbol used in math to represent 3.14159, or the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. You know what circle-shaped thing we really like on 3/14? PIE! Especially the sweet kind! We poked around and found quite a few places around the state that make homemade pie.

Usually during canning day at Sturbridge’s Altruist Brewing Co., the machine that fills and seals the cans draws the most attention. Only last week, owners Nancy and Bob Bixby were more excited about the new plain-looking rings they’ve started using to hold the cans together. Dubbed “Eco Rings,” the rings have inspired a movement to limit craft beer’s reliance on plastic packaging.

Since the holiday began back in 2006, IHOP restaurants have used the occasion to raise nearly $24 million in support of local charities, while serving up stacks of fluffy hotcakes.
