City, Sps Reach Rate Hike Agreement

Amarillo City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to accept a reduced rise in electricity rates, finalized the budget and tax rate and accepted a sizeable grant for low-income housing. Southwestern Public Service reached a negotiated settlement with ratepayer groups, including the city, that would boost rates for average residential customers by 8 percent. “The increase would be $37 million (a year).
