Southwestern Public Service wants to make its solar power supply significantly brighter with a request for proposals to add up to 200 megawatts by the end of 2016, dwarfing its current 55 megawatts of solar. “We’re looking for some of the solar megawatts to be connected to distribution substations in New Mexico, and this power could be used to help us meet New Mexico renewable energy mandates,” said SPS spokesman Wes Reeves.
