Colorado state Senate Republicans on Wednesday again rejected a proposal to have the state run a retirement-savings program for small businesses, saying that doing so is not the role of the government, even in the midst of a savings crisis. House Bill 1290, sponsored by Democratic Reps. Brittany Pettersen of Lakewood and Janet Buckner of Aurora, sought to create a savings program that would mandate participation by all businesses that do not offer such a plan to their own employees.
