Review: 'Marnie' -- visually exquisite animated Japanese fantasy

Unfolding in a stunning hand-drawn universe that is meticulously made, director Hiromasa Yonebayashi's 'When Marnie Was There' chronicles 12-year-old Anna's trip from her home in urban Sapporo to a rural area on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido where, while recovering from chronic asthma, she forges a friendship with Marnie, a girl her own age with stunning blond hair.
