Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne is being played as a mid-40s version who has been working as the Caped Crusader for around twenty years and has "lost those near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age of disease." Snyder says the arrival of Superman changes Wayne's perspective: "We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change.
