Donald Trump’s repeated accusations that the 2016 presidential election is “rigged” have already changed the course of this election. Not because they’re valid charges—there’s no evidence to support Trump’s claims, and no serious expert believes that the current election is rigged. But it throws a huge wrench into the process of anointing and accepting a new president, especially for the GOP, which will need to navigate a likely loss with a candidate who may very well refuse to acknowledge the result. It’s nearly impossible to predict the behavior of Trump himself, who clearly hates losing so much that he’ll attack the entire system that put him here in the first place.
