Comment on Fantastic Beasts: JK Rowling Defends Johnny Depp Casting

JK Rowling has come forward to defend the decision to keep Johnny Depp in the role of legendary dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In a post on her website, Rowling said she and the filmmakers are "not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies." Rowling said she understands why some fans have expressed confusion and anger about the situation, noting that "around the time of filming cameo in the first movie, stories had appeared in the press that deeply concerned me and everyone most closely involved in the franchise."
